You Don't Have to Navigate This Alone
Every relationship hits rough water. Maybe it's constant arguments that never quite resolve. Maybe it's the quiet distance that's crept in over the years. Maybe trust was broken and you're not sure how to rebuild it, or you're standing at a crossroads and need help deciding what comes next. Whatever brought you here, you don't have to figure it out alone.
At Designed Life Counselling Collective, couples therapy gives you and your partner a structured, supportive space to slow down, actually hear each other, and build the tools to move forward together. Sessions are available in-person at our Windsor office or virtually across Ontario, so you can choose whatever feels most comfortable.
What Is Couples Counselling?
Couples counselling (sometimes called couples therapy or marriage counselling) is a form of psychotherapy where both partners work with a trained therapist to understand what's driving conflict or disconnection in the relationship, and to build healthier ways of relating to one another.
It isn't about deciding who's "right." A skilled couples therapist acts as a guide, not a referee, helping each partner feel heard, surfacing the patterns underneath repeated arguments, and giving you practical tools to communicate differently once you leave the room. Sessions typically run weekly to start, and many couples notice a shift in how they talk to each other within the first few sessions, though the pace is always set by what your relationship needs.
Couples counselling isn't only for relationships in crisis. Plenty of couples come in simply wanting to strengthen a relationship that's already good, prepare for a big transition, or get ahead of small tensions before they grow.
What Couples Counselling Helps With
Our Windsor-based couples therapy is tailored to your specific dynamic, not a one-size-fits-all script. We commonly support partners working through:
- Communication breakdowns: feeling unheard, talking past each other, or shutting down during hard conversations
- Recurring conflict: the same argument on repeat, even when the "topic" keeps changing
- Trust and infidelity: rebuilding after a breach of trust, at whatever pace feels honest for both of you
- Emotional or physical distance: growing apart, feeling more like roommates than partners
- Life transitions: a new baby, a move, a career change, blending families, or retirement
- Pre-marital and engagement support: through our Designed Marriage program, built specifically for couples preparing for marriage
- Couples wanting a deeper reset: our Couples Intensive format offers focused, multi-hour sessions for partners who want concentrated support outside of a weekly cadence
Whatever combination of these applies to you, sessions draw on evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Attachment Theory, and Emotion-Focused Therapy, chosen and blended based on what your relationship actually needs.
Meet Your Couples Therapist
Dailah Mulder, RP, Clinic Owner and Registered Psychotherapist
Couples therapy at Designed Life Counselling Collective is led by Dailah Mulder, RP, the practice's founder. Dailah is a member of both CRPO and CCPA, and holds a Bachelor's degree in Communications from the University of Windsor and a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University in Virginia. She draws on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Attachment Theory, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and the Gottman Method to help couples understand the patterns behind their conflict and rebuild genuine connection, whether you're navigating a specific rupture or simply want a stronger foundation. Dailah also leads the practice's Designed Marriage pre-marital program and Couples Intensive sessions for couples wanting a more concentrated format.
Stephanie Tramontozzi, RP (Qualifying), Women's Mental Health Specialist
Stephanie also works with couples, alongside her focus on individual and women's mental health. She holds a teaching degree from the University of Windsor, with over 20 years of teaching experience, and a Master's degree in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. Stephanie integrates Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy in a person-centered, collaborative approach, helping clients build coping skills and emotional resilience through life's transitions and challenges.
Sessions with either therapist are warm and collaborative, never clinical or judgmental. The goal is always to help both partners feel understood, not to assign blame.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. Many couples start with only a general sense that something isn't working. Part of the first sessions is helping you both name what's actually going on underneath the day-to-day friction.
That's normal, and it's not a barrier to getting started. Couples therapy is designed for two different perspectives in the room; the goal is to understand both, not to decide who's correct.
Many extended health plans cover psychotherapy with a Registered Psychotherapist. We offer direct billing with a number of major providers (including Manulife, Green Shield Canada, and Canada Life, among others). Reach out and we'll help you confirm your specific coverage.
It depends on your timeline and what's going on. Weekly sessions build skills gradually over time; a Couples Intensive is better suited to couples who want to make concentrated progress in a shorter window, or who are working through something time-sensitive. We can help you decide which fits during your free consultation.
Ready to Reconnect?
You don't have to keep having the same argument, or keep feeling distant from someone you love. A free 20-minute phone consultation is the easiest way to start: no cost, no commitment, just a conversation to see if we're the right fit for you both.
